Iranian Metal Band ANGBAND Signs With Germany's PURE STEEL RECORDS
June 8, 2008Iranian power/progressive metallers ANGBAND have inked a deal with Germany's Pure Steel Records for the release of their debut album, "Rising from Apadana". According to a press release, ANGBAND is "the first metal band from Iran" to sign a deal with a European record company. "As you may know metal is illegal in Iran right now especially [with Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad [in power]. There were some concerts, books and some articles in newspaper about metal when [moderate President] Khatami was the president but now metal is illegal in Iran!"
"Rising from Apadana" is tentatively scheduled for release in August.
ANGBAND was formed in Tehran in 2004 by Mahyar Dean, a classically trained musician and author who is well known in metal world for writing books about DEATH and TESTAMENT. ANGBAND was a initially progressive metal/instrumental project but when Mahyar met a talented tenor singer Ashkan they decided to become a "power metal/progressive band with killer vocals."
